Weight Loss: How to Stack the Odds in Your Favor
What if you never had to turn in homework, write a report or take a test when you were in school? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I would have learned anything if it weren’t for deadlines and accountability.
It’s human nature that we tend to make better decisions and take more positive action when we have to report to someone else. Most of us are very good at showing up for others. We prioritize work, family obligations and civic duties, but we’re often left with little time or energy to take care of our own priorities – like our health.
That’s why accountability is so essential, especially when it comes to a challenging endeavor like losing weight.
The odds are stacked against us in so many ways: our bodies naturally want to hold on to weight as a survival mechanism, we’re bombarded with food advertisements in our environment, we see fast food & junk food on every street corner, we cook for our families, and we feel pressured to overindulge at social events.
Using your willpower to try to stay on track is not enough, but you can stack the odds in your favor by getting expert help. Accountability & support are key.
But, for some reason, when it comes to weight loss, we’re often reluctant to reach out for the support we need. We think “I’m smart and resourceful. I should be able to do this on my own.” And we feel ashamed to admit we need help.
But think of it this way. If your television broke, would you research how to fix it, go get the parts, and then tinker with it until you finally got it working?
Most of us would decide our time, energy & money would be better spent hiring an expert to help us out. There is no shame in asking for support when someone else has the tools & experience to make the process go smoothly.
With our busy, stressful lives, we need to prioritize where we spend our time & energy. With a process as complex as weight loss, getting some help can make a big difference.
