No matter how committed you are to your healthy eating habits, chances are there’ve been times when you felt like you were starting over from square one.
Summer vacations, end-of-year holidays, illnesses and stressful work projects are just a few of the challenges that can throw us off our game.
Whether it’s been weeks, months, or years of poor eating, the process of getting back on track can feel overwhelming.
But it doesn’t have to be! We’ve put together this simple checklist to help you get back to your healthy eating without the overwhelm.
Your Fresh-Start Checklist
1) ADJUST YOUR MINDSET:
Let bygones be bygones! Don’t worry about what you ate yesterday, and don’t try to “make up” for it by depriving yourself today. Start fresh right now and focus on making your next choice a healthy one.
2) FILL YOUR WATER BOTTLES EVERY NIGHT:
We recommend having several water bottles that hold a total of at least 64 ounces. Focus on finishing all the bottles by the next evening. Staying hydrated will give you more energy and prevent false hunger pangs. Plus, with no additives, sugars, artificial sweeteners, or other questionable ingredients, water is the healthiest & most natural beverage you can drink.
3) INCLUDE A VEGETABLE OR FRUIT WITH EVERY MEAL & SNACK:
We recommend a serving of fruit with breakfast and mid-morning snack, and at least one serving of vegetables with lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. Increasing your fruit & vegetable intake will provide you with more fiber, vitamins and minerals.
4) INCLUDE PROTEIN WITH EVERY MEAL & SNACK:
Protein builds muscle, repairs tissues and makes enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein also increases satiety, so eating it throughout the day helps prevent you from getting too hungry between meals. We recommend getting your protein from a variety of sources, including nuts, seeds, legumes, fish, poultry, eggs & meat.
5) PACK YOUR LUNCHES & SNACKS:
Packing healthy food to take to work will make it easier to stay on track throughout the day. Having nourishing, satisfying snacks on hand will make the afternoon lure of the vending machine less tempting.
